The Wind in the Wildflowers

The Wind in the Wildflowers © 1974 Tom Shindler

  1. I sat by myself on the top of the hill
    That stood in the shadow of the Mountain
    I saw from that shelf all the valleys deep and still;
    Waterfalling streams, rocky fountains
  2. I sat in the meadow where the wildflowers grow;
    In colors brighter than a rainbow.
    I breathed a perfume that queens could never know;
    Laid my head upon a grassy pillow.

(Chorus) And the wind in the wildflowers sings me a song
The birds in the trees sing along
The blues turn to gold, and the hot turns to cold
And another day soon will be gone.

  1. I sat by myself on the top of the hill
    And turned my eyes toward the Mountain.
    I was caught in its spell till the stars took their place
    As I’d done from a distance so often. (chorus)
  2. I lay by myself on the top of the hill
    And gazed at a sky full of starlight.
    The valleys below me with darkness did fill
    As my thoughts turned to dreams in the midnight.

(Last Chorus) And the wind in the wildflowers sings me a song
The birds in the trees sing along
The gold disappears – in a night cold and clear
But the morning will soon be along.
