Ballad at Nickel Creek

  1. I walked across the mountain side, and through the forest tall
When I gazed up to that mountain top I felt so very small.
I asked the wind a question, though the answer was not known.
Still I chose to walk this trail and find my way alone.
  2. I walked across the snowfields, a path before my feet
Of footprints that were leading to the friends that I would meet.
The trail soon, it ended, just before a river bank.
We gazed with thoughts of building where the bridge before us sank.
  3. That night I sang with new friends until the sun went down.
We gazed with thoughts of building where the bridge before us sank.
The stars, they all appeared, and the snow was on the ground.
In the morning we worked together, to build a bridge so strong,
And walked the ridge together, and filled the air with song.

    (instrumental break)
  4. One more night we sang our songs until the fire died,
And even though we parted ways, there was a bond of friendship tied.
And now I stand here singing of a new day and an old,
So the song of those I came to love, forever may be told.
  5. I walk across this mountain side, and through the forest tall.
When I gaze up to that mountain top, I feel so very small.
I ask the wind that question, I know the answer can’t be known.
But now I chose to walk this trail, somehow I’m not alone.
